After skipping August, we're back to selecting a Post of the Month. As is the norm, I've collected September's Posts of the Week and placed them in one place for your easy review. Presenting the nominees for the SFDB September Post of the Month
Nominee #1: "A Frolic In The Middle Keys"
Big, honkin' photos with entertaining and informative narrative are the heart of Critical Miami's best posts and this one was loaded with them. Yes, most of us have been there, but it seems like Alesh found a few more special components of the Keys that we somehow seem to miss when we visit.
Nominee #2: "A Tour of the Gusman/Olympia Theater"
Another Critical Miami post for Nominee #2 this month. This time, Alesh posts a wonderful photo expose of the Gusman/Olympia Theater and brings it all to life as he walks us about the place with a mini-tour of his own. It's pure Critical Miami style: find a South Florida place, landmark, or business and photograph the hell out of it while giving us interesting tidbits of information. And it works great.
Nominee #3: " Congressional District 26, or: Who’s the Ugliest One of All?"
This post does a good job in looking at the seemingly lopsided race in Congressional District 26 and lists Congressman's David Rivera's long list of vices and foibles that he's been involved in over the years. South Florida for Beginners uses lots of links for readers to reference and composes the voluminous information into an easily digestible blog post.
Nominee #4: "Upper Eastside Farmer's Market"
Redland Rambles has been fairly quiet through the summer but with the growing season approaching in South Florida they're back to blogging. Their great post about the Upper Eastside Farmer's Market which, by the way, was open through the summer, contains all the images and the narrative describing the obligatory where and when, but Redland Rambles also includes detailed information about some of the individual vendors and the mechanics of the market itself. Good stuff so when you visit it feels like you've already been there and know the place like a regular.
The 17 SFDB Editors will be unleashed and will thoroughly review these posts in order to come to a decision for September's SFDB Post of the Month. This month's deadline for voting is going to be Saturday, October 13th at 5:00 PM. The results should be announced here the following week.
As always, feel free to add your own thoughts about the nominated posts in the comments below.
