Presenting the nominees for the SFDB October Post of the Month.

Nominee #1: "Yo Soy Hialeah: Stephen's New York Style Deli"

South Florida history is about as rare as its courteous drivers, so when Sex and the Beach decided to tell us about a wonderfully old New York-style deli in Hialeah, I sat up and paid attention. What followed was some interesting narrative accompanied by a super video that gives us the flavor of this wonderfully unique place named Stephen's Deli that has been around since 1954. Who knew?

Nominee #2: "Meet the Miami News Reporter Who Broke the Story of Russian Missile Bases in Cuba"

Random Pixels entry is a wonderfully interesting post about a South Florida reporter who was intimately involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis back in the '60's. Information was gathered from a variety of sources and collated into a very readable and descriptive missive that gives readers yet another piece of Florida history that is largely unknown by local residents.

Nominee #3: "The Clarence Reid Session"

Long Play Miami was able to lasso local singer Clarence Reid, "the original dirty rapper," who preceded Luther Campbell and 2 Live Crew by a decade, and sat down with him at Miami Jai Alai to talk about the old days. Reid remains rather rough around the edges and a very unique throwback to another era in music, and Long Play Miami documents it all in a well written, generously imaged post.

Nominee #4: "GrowFest" [1,2]

Redland Rambles' great two-part post on the inaugural GrowFest held in the Redland documented the event and showed us a few of the people who were involved and instrumental in making it happen. Lots of photos complimented the narrative that was loaded with information about local agriculture.

Nominee #5: "I Voted"

Bark Bark Woof Woof takes us along as he heads out to the polls early one morning to vote.  We get to follow along as he makes his way through the long line, finally getting inside the library to register his choices. His observations, photos, comments and thoughts as he did all this makes for a great post.

Wow. Some tough choices for the 17 SFDB Editors this month. I'm going to give them until Friday, November 16th at 10 PM to decide. The results should be announced here the following week.

As always, feel free to add your own thoughts about the nominated posts in the comments below.
